Elderly resident with mobility issues
Project Overview
Our client, an elderly lady, faced significant challenges with her existing bathroom setup. The council had provided a sliding seat for her bath, but it wasn’t functional. The seat was facing away from the shower and transitioning from standing outside the bath to sitting inside, and then standing again to exit, was extremely difficult and unsafe, especially in a wet environment.
Additionally, the existing shower was positioned too high, making it hard for her to operate.
Solution:
AP Tile and Bathrooms stepped in to transform the bathroom, focusing on enhancing accessibility and ensuring ease of use. Here’s a breakdown of what we did:
1. Shower Cubicle Installation
Type: 900×900 corner-opening cubicle shower with two sliding doors.
Features: The spacious 900×900 size allows for a shower chair to be added in the future if needed. The corner-opening design with two sliding doors ensures that a caregiver can easily assist the client, improving overall accessibility. The doors’ positioning also allows easy reach to the handrail, enhancing safety and ease of use.
2. Shower Fixtures
New Plumbing: Installed a new shower system with lower fixtures to allow the client to operate it easily.
Handrail: A sturdy handrail was added to provide additional support.
3. Design and Materials:
Continuity: Chrome fixtures and fittings were chosen to match the existing bathroom decor, maintaining a seamless look.
Shower Panelling: Grey shower panels were used for easy cleaning and to complement the existing grey tones in the bathroom.
Radiator: Replaced the old radiator with a chrome one to enhance the aesthetic and functionality.
Outcome:
The client and her family were extremely satisfied with the transformation. The new setup not only improved accessibility but also ensured a safer and more comfortable bathing experience. Their positive feedback and reviews on our social media reflect their happiness with the completed project.
Alex came and fitted my elderly mum a walk in shower and fitted a new floor and heated towel rail.
Alex was polite turned up on time and always made sure he cleaned up after himself , lovely young man would definitely recommend him to everyone.
