A recent example of our craftsmanship was a substantial flooring installation for a client named Mat in Padfield, Glossop. This project presented unique challenges due to an extension that created a significant height discrepancy in the flooring.
Addressing Height Discrepancies with Expertise
The project spanned an impressive thirty square meters, involving the integration of the existing kitchen floor with a newly extended area. The main challenge was a fifty-millimeter height difference between these two sections. Our solution was meticulous and tailored specifically to ensure durability and aesthetic coherence across the entire space. We utilized a dry pack sand and cement screed, enhanced with reinforcement fibers, to effectively level the height discrepancy. This was followed by a latex screed application to achieve an absolutely flat surface, achieving a variance within just one millimeter up to the living room door threshold.
Innovative Materials for Lasting Durability
Understanding the demands of such a large area and the new screed, we opted for a decoupling mat. This choice was critical in preventing any lateral movements that could potentially cause cracks in the tiles, ensuring a long-lasting finish. The choice of large format porcelain tiles not only enhanced the visual appeal but also provided the durability needed for such a high-traffic area. To complement this, we used flexible grout to accommodate any potential lateral movements, thus preventing the transfer of cracks.
